Fairfield Dance Awarded the Certificate of Distinction at the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation 2015

On 16 April 2015, Fairfield Dance performed in the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Arts Presentation at the University Cultural Centre. Fairfield Dance had always been doing well in past performances and competitions, but the dancers exceeded all expectations by clinching the Certificate of Distinction at this year’s edition of the Arts Presentation.


The journey was no doubt an arduous one. The dancers started the year needing to grow accustomed to a new instructor and a new genre...




Secondary One WHEEL Week

Cross Country 2015

The sun shone, the birds chirped and the trees danced along with the cool morning breeze at Jurong Central Park on 2 April 2015. Weather was perfect for Fairfield's Annual Cross Country.


Before the race officially began, students were issued number tags to have their running time captured electronically. This was particularly important for the secondary 2 and 4 students, as this would ensure their 2.4 km NAPFA run would be accurately timed. As the students were flagged off class by class according to gender, they were greatly encouraged by the support of their friends from other levels... 



Fairfield’s Tribute to Mr. Lee Kuan Yew

On 23 March 2015, Singapore lost her founding father, Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, the visionary leader who transformed Singapore from a colonial port city to a bustling cosmopolitan city state. His emphasis on shaping and developing the education system of the schools in Singapore, including Fairfield, enabled every Singaporean to have an equal opportunity to carve out a brighter future.


As Singapore entered a week of national mourning to signal the passing of a truly great leader, FMS(S) also paid tribute to Mr Lee Kuan Yew to remember his legacy.

Victory through Determination --- Fairfield Clinches Top 4 Placing in South Zone ‘B’ Division Badminton Championships

For many years, the Fairfield Badminton team has set their hearts and minds on achieving success through their great passion and love for the sport. After going through many rigorous trainings and friendly matches to hone our skills in various tournaments, our hard work finally paid off when the Fairfield 'B' Division Girls’ Badminton team came in 4th in the recent South Zone Inter-School Badminton Championships... 





Multi Ethnic Celebrations 2015

18 February 2015 marked Fairfield’s annual Multi Ethnic Celebrations, which was a time when students and teachers immersed themselves in various exciting cultural activities and performances. Many teachers and students came to school in colourful ethnic costumes representing the various ethnic groups, which was truly a sight to behold with the school dressed in a flurry of bright and dazzling colours. 


The Multi Ethnic Celebrations not only highlighted the festive season, but renewed our understanding of its history and culture. Each level of students had the unique opportunity to participate... 




Fairfield’s 2014 GCE O- and
N-Level Results

On 12 January 2015, the Sec 4 Express and 5 Normal (Academic) students returned to FMS(S) to receive their GCE O-Level results. The Chen Su Lan Hall was filled with chatter and murmurs as everyone anxiously anticipated the release of his or her examination results. Our Principal Ms Audrey Chen began by emphasising that their results do not determine who they are, and urged Fairsians to look back in gratitude and give thanks for the rich experiences they had in Fairfield.


Darryl Thong --- A Dedicated Student and Boys’ Brigade Member 

Darryl is an optimistic student who has a clear sense of purpose in achieving his personal targets. A diligent student, Darryl displays a positive attitude towards learning, for he is attentive in class, contributes actively in class discussions, and does not hesitate to clarify his doubts with his teachers. A dedicated member of the Boys' Brigade, Darryl was part of the unit that emerged second in the 2012 BB South Cluster Drill Competition. Furthermore, his contributions helped the unit to achieve the Gold Award in the JM Fraser Unit Excellence Award in 2011... 



Goh Jia Wen --- A Dedicated Captain and Student

Jia Wen is an eager learner who is willing to accept advice from his teachers to improve himself. He has been very successful in striking a balance between both his academic and non-academic pursuits; besides working hard in his studies, he actively participated in class and school activities, and was an active and committed member of the Fairfield Squash Team from 2010 to 2014. His contributions helped the school to emerge second at the National Inter-school Squash Championship 'C' Division in 2010 and 'B' Division in 2012. Samuel Chong --- A Diligent Sportsman and Student 

Samuel is a motivated and proactive student who makes it a point to clarify his doubts during lessons. An avid sportsman who gets along well with his peers, Samuel served as Class Captain in 2013. An active member of the Fairfield Volleyball team, he helped the team to clinch first position in 2011 and second position in 2012 in the South Zone Inter-school 'C' Division Boys’ Volleyball Championships. In addition, his contributions enabled the team to emerge second in the South Zone Inter-school 'B' Division Boys’ Volleyball Championships, and finish in the Top Eight of the National Inter-school Volleyball Championships in 2014... 



Jordan Yeo --- A Diligent Leader

Jordan is a resilient and disciplined student who is highly focused on achieving his goals. He participates actively in class discussions, is a keen learner and demonstrates great pride in his work. Appointed as the Assistant Head of the Projects Department in the Student Council from 2013 to 2014, Jordan has developed and honed his character and leadership capabilities through leading several events such as Teachers’ Day in 2013 and the Secondary One Orientation in 2014. As the Administrative Head of the Boys’ Brigade from 2013 to 2014... 



Nah Li Shi --- A Responsible Student and Passionate Learner

Nah Li Shi is a cheerful and responsible student who displays good leadership skills. She was elected as the Class Chairman in 2011, the National Education Ambassador in 2012, and the Class Captain in 2013. She carried out all her duties faithfully, and demonstrated effective planning and leadership skills by organising the Dover Block Party in 2012 as well as the National Education Camp in 2012 and 2013. An active and dedicated member of the Fairfield Netball team, Li Shi’s immense contribution helped the team to achieve the first and second position in the Daisy Tan Netball Carnival in 2011 and 2012 respectively... 



Ivan Lock – A Resilient Achiever

Ivan is a conscientious and disciplined student who owes his academic achievements to his determination and perseverance. Ivan did very well in the Normal (Academic) stream, topping the cohort in 2011 and being laterally transferred to the Secondary 2 Express course at the beginning of 2012. For his achievements, he was awarded the Edusave Merit Bursary in 2011 and 2012. His strong aptitude in Mathematics and Science, together with a strong showing in his overall results...

Ong Chong Xuan Joshua --- A Modest Leader and Achiever

Joshua demonstrated great commitment and strived for excellence in every assigned task in the Student Council, Fairfield Choir and Journalism Club. As the Assistant Head of the Projects Department in the Student Council, he worked well with his peers to organise the Teachers’ Day Celebrations and the Council Camp in 2013, as well as the Secondary One Orientation Programme in 2014. As the Vice Chairman of Fairfield Choir from 2013 to 2014, his contributions helped the team to achieve the Certificate of Distinction Award in the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation (Choir) in 2013. As the Chief Editor of the Fairfield Journalism Club from 2013 to 2014, Joshua dedicated a lot of time and effort to writing many articles which were always of high quality, and in conscientiously vetting many articles written by his juniors...




Dora Tay --- An Outstanding Student with Many Talents

Dora is a disciplined and committed student who is able to manage her time well between co-curricular activities (CCAs), Student Council duties as well as ten academic subjects. Academically proficient in all subjects, Dora received an Honourable Mention in the Mathematics Olympiad and was awarded the First Prize in the National Poetry Slam Competition in 2012. Her consistent diligence and positive learning attitude earned Dora the Edusave Scholarships in 2011 and 2012. As the Secretary of the Student Council from 2013 to 2014, Dora organised and led numerous large-scale school-based events such as Teachers’ Day 2013, as well as the Council camp in 2012 and 2013. 



Tan Ding Kang --- Striking A Balance between Sports, Studies and Service

Ding Kang is an amiable and highly-motivated student who is attentive in class and respectful towards his teachers. As the Deputy Head Councillor in 2014, he displayed a heart of service by devoting much time and effort in various school-wide duties. As an avid sportsman, Ding Kang was an active member of the Fairfield Volleyball team that clinched the third position in the South Zone Inter-school Volleyball Championships 'B' Division Boys in 2014. Sandy Goh – A Disciplined Leader

Sandy is a disciplined, diligent and self-motivated student who displays an excellent attitude towards learning. Her exemplary academic performance was rewarded with the MOE Edusave Scholarship from 2011 to 2013. As the Head of Girls’ Brigade, she helped the Company to achieve many awards such as the Best Company Award (Gold) from 2011 to 2013, as well as the Silver and Bronze Awards in the Girls’ Brigade Creative Cheer Challenge from 2011 to 2013 and the Inter-Unit Drill Competition in 2014 respectively. In 2014, she was awarded the prestigious Pioneer Brigadier's Brooch which is the highest local award given to an outstanding and deserving member of the Girls' Brigade. Dylon Lawrence Han - A Role Model for All

Dylon is a diligent and focused student who does his best in all tasks. A highly-valued member of the National Cadet Corps (Land), Dylon served as the Unit Sergeant Major from 2013 to 2014. As a responsible leader, he helped the unit to not only achieve the Best Unit Award (Gold) from 2011 to 2013, but finish in second position in the Precision Drill Squad Grand Finals in 2014. In recognition of his immense contributions towards his Co-Curricular Activity (CCA), he was presented with the prestigious Outstanding Cadet Award by the National Cadet Corps Headquarters. In 2013, Dylon was also part of the Orientation Executive Committee where he was involved in the planning and execution of a variety of activities to welcome our secondary 1 students into FMS(S).



Loy Hui Jing --- Passionate in Soccer and Studies

Hui Jing is an attentive and promising student who is always eager to learn. As the Captain of the Fairfield football team, he led the team to victory in the 2013 Methodist Cup, and helped the school to finish second in the 2013 Singapore 9’s Tournament. As a sports leader, Hui Jing was involved in the planning and execution of games during the Secondary One Orientation and was also recognised as an outstanding student leader of his orientation group...

Dazzling Displays at Open House 2014

On 21 November 2014, FMS(S) held an Open House to invite the general public into the school compound to give primary six students and their parents a chance to take a look at the school as well as to understand the exciting types of activities and programmes offered.


For this annual event, Fairsians from each co-curricular activity (CCA) had the unique opportunity to warmly welcome these students and parents at their respective CCA booths in the canteen to let visitors have a better idea of the achievements...

Teachers’ Day Celebration 2014

Teachers’ Day is the day we thank all teachers who have selflessly guided us through our journey here in Fairfield. In line with this year’s theme ‘Superheroes’, the Student Council put together a concert filled with superb games and colourful decorations for the teachers on 4 September 2014.


The day kicked off with a runway to warmly welcome teachers to their respective seats and a video ‘Why You Should Thank A Teacher Today’, followed by a show-stopping band performance of a parody of the song ‘It’s Not Easy’ with lyrics. A second band consisting of secondary 3 students... 




Clean Sweep of All Available Awards by FMS(S) Students in Safety Starts With Me Writing Competition 

The Safety Starts With Me Writing Competition, which is organised annually by the Workplace Safety and Health Council, aims to help everyone showcase their creative talents while paying attention to common everyday risks at work. Creative entries focused on the prevention of work accidents or injuries, or creating safety awareness, in alignment with the theme ‘A healthier workplace is a safer workplace’. 



Andrew Ng - A Debater, Leader, and Excellent Student

Andrew showed great commitment in managing his roles in the Student Council, Debating and Oratorical Society and the Red Cross Youth and often went beyond what was expected of him. As Deputy Head Councillor, he oversaw the running of the Secondary One Orientation 2013 and council camps as well as various school events. Rino - A Dramatically Focused Student 

Rino was an active member of Fairfield Drama where he served as President in 2013 and was involved in the planning and execution of many drama performances. Fairfield’s 126th Founder’s Day Commendation Service 2014

Fairfield celebrated her Founder’s Day on 4 August 2014 in the Chen Su Lan Hall to commemorate the founding of our beloved school by Miss Sophia Blackmore in 1888. An upper secondary service was held first before the lower secondary students celebrated this special occasion.

National Day 2014

Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) celebrated Singapore’s 49th birthday on 8 August 2014. Students and teachers were decked in red and white, wearing their patriotism on their sleeves to celebrate the nation’s birthday. Excitement was in the air as Fairsians gathered along the corridors of the school building, awaiting the parade held at the half netball court. The outstanding parade segment featured the different uniformed groups in the school, consisting of the Boys’ Brigade, Girls’ Brigade, National Cadet Corps (Land), National Cadet Corps (Sea)... 



Fairfield Symphonic Band Clinches the Gold Award in National Band Competition

On 3 August 2014, the Fairfield Symphonic Band competed in the 5th National Band Competition (Division 2 category) at the Singapore Conference Hall, and clinched the most coveted Gold Award as well as achieved an overall second placing. These unprecedented sterling results were a culmination of the sheer hard work and sacrifice of the band members, band conductors and band teachers throughout the year. Even in the midst of Common Test preparation, the band members demonstrated much tenacity and resilience during their intensive trainings and rehearsals to conscientiously hone their skills.


126th Founder’s Day Graduation and Thanksgiving Service

On 1 August 2014, the 126th Founder’s Day Graduation and Thanksgiving Service was held in the Chen Su Lan Hall. The Fairfield Choir kicked off this service with a brilliant rendition of a medley of songs, including ‘Wade in the Water’ and ‘The Prayer’, which was led by Student Conductor Steven Koe. Mr. Varian Cheong, a member of Fairfield’s Christian Ministry Staff, then led the Call to Worship, before Reverend Barnabas Chong gave the Opening Prayer.

Fairfield Basketball’s ‘C’ Division Boys Finished Second in South Zone Basketball Championships 2014

In the recent Inter-School South Zone Basketball Championships 2014, Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary)’s ‘C’ Division Basketball team emerged as First Runner-Up. Fairfield Volleyball is a long-standing Co-Curricular Activity comprising 80 members who show true dedication and passion for the sport. This year, with grit and resilience, all our four teams performed outstandingly at the National Inter-School Volleyball Championships. During each rigorous training session, every team focused and persevered in perfecting their skills in preparation for their matches.

Over the years, Fairfield English Drama has put up many successful performances such as ‘The Dancers’, ‘Radio Silence’, ‘Revolution’ and ‘How the First Letter was Written’.


Spurred on by our determination to match our previous performing standards, Fairfield English Drama members worked very hard for this year's May performance, A Double Bill 2.0. The plays performed by our very own actors and actresses were ‘Comeuppance of the Media’, written by Shehnaz Salim and directed by Rebecca Lee,and ‘Book Riot’ ...

Chapelthon 2014

Chapelthon 2014 was truly a great experience, as God’s love reached out to so many people in the hall. The theme for this year was ‘Extravagant Grace’, which emphasised God’s saving and unending grace.


The evening started with a bang from the Alumni band led by Joy Sim! It was wonderful as everyone worshipped fervently and sensed God’s presence fill the hall, as hands and voices were lifted in awe of Him. Sec 2 Dover Block Party 2014

Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) organised an annual block party held at Dover on 16 May 2014, which helped to foster closer bonds amongst residents in the Dover community and inculcate a heart of service amongst the secondary 2 students.


The students had dedicated much time and effort in ensuring the success of this meaningful block party, which included organising an exciting lineup of entertaining performances such as dances, songs and skits, as well as setting up a variety of game stalls to entertain the residents who attended the block party...



Secondary 2 WHEEL Week 2014

The annual Secondary two camp that took place from 19 May to 22 May 2014 consisted of a plethora of diverse fun-filled activities meant to broaden the students’ horizons and to give them the unique experience of an outdoor adventure education.


After the boys pitched their tents and the girls cleaned their dormitories, the students gathered to officially begin the camp. On the first day, team building games and a poster making activity helped all groups to develop closer ties. First Aid talks were also conducted... 



Fairfield Clinches the ‘B’ Division Squash Championships

On 24 April 2014, the Fairfield Squash Boys’ team did the school proud by winning and retaining the ‘B’ Division squash championships with the support of fellow teachers and schoolmates.


With a determined mindset, Ryan Liang won the first match against ACS (I) with a score of 3-1. Jerald Tan then dominated and clinched the second match, giving Fairfield a 2-0 lead. The fourth game saw Kojiro Tan from Fairfield breezing through the match to help Fairfield score an unassailable 3-1 lead over...




FMS(S) English Language Week 2014

This year’s English Language (EL) Week, which was held from 7 to 11 April 2014, was aimed at developing Fairsians’ interest in English Language through a plethora of engaging and intriguing activities.


One of the most interesting activities, the Spelling Bee, thoroughly excited Fairsians who displayed their competitive spirit in the classroom. The contestants eagerly brooded over the positions of the various letters in the given words as they tried spelling a myriad of challenging words.



Cross Country 2014

On 28 March 2014, the Fairfield family flocked to West Coast Park for our annual Cross Country. In line with the FIFA World Cup which is taking place in June this year, Fairfield invited Tanjong Pagar United’s marquee signing Monsef Zerka as our Guest-Of-Honour, who was very happy to answer questions posed by our emcees Ms Brenda Nio and Mr Teo Kian Wee, so as to provide an insight into his healthy lifestyle and to encourage us to stay fit and healthy. Furthermore, our Principal Mr Owyong encouraged us not to lead a sedentary lifestyle, and to exercise regularly. A willing heart and discipline - Alvina Adimoelja has both

Alvina is a humble and optimistic student who displays good leadership and organisational skills. She was part of the Red Cross Youth team who helped the unit to achieve the Excellent Unit Award (Gold) from 2011 to 2013. Due to her immense contributions and active participation, she was promoted to the rank of Senior Warrant Officer in 2013. She maintained the discipline...


Genevieve Chew - An overachiever when it comes to perseverance and determination 

Genevieve is a far-sighted individual who sets high goals for herself and shows determination and perseverance in achieving them. An active member of the Girls' Brigade (G.B.), she was part of the team that did the school proud by attaining the Gold Award from 2011 to 2013 at the annual Uniformed Group Competition organised by G.B. Headquarters. In addition, Genevieve was involved in the G.B. National Drill Competition in 2011 where they also attained the Gold Award. Due to her significant contributions, Genevieve was promoted to become the Chairman of Girls' Brigade, where she was given the opportunity to hone her leadership skills...


Brendan Loon – Excellent in Music and Studies 

Brendan is a highly motivated individual who is very focused on working towards his goals. Appointed as the Head of the Connect Department in the Student Council in 2012, Brendan was able to hone his leadership skills as he led his team in spearheading the Students’ Suggestion Scheme programme in school. Having a passion for music and as an active member of the Fairfield Symphonic Band, Brendan took part in various events and competitions. He was part of the team which helped the Band clinch the Silver Award at the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging for Concert Bands in 2011.


Chien Chuen Wee - A Disciplined Student 

Chuen Wee is an optimistic and creative student who strives to do his best in all tasks. As an active member of the school's Badminton Team, he represented FMS(S) in various inter-school competitions and came in second at the Singapore Badminton Association Singles Invitational (Under 17) in 2013. Owing to his valuable contributions and active participation, he was appointed the Vice-Captain of the team. He also served the school as a Health Ambassador in 2012 and 2013, where he assisted the teachers in disseminating health tips to the school population and also helped in organising several events which promoted healthy living... 



Fairfield Achieves Excellent 2013 GCE O- and N- Level Results

Multi Ethnic Celebrations 2014

This year’s Multi Ethnic Celebrations on 30 January 2014 was a feast for the senses, as students, teachers and staff alike dressed in colourful ethnic costumes and engaged in exciting performances that involved dance, music and song.


The day started off with the students trying their hands on different cultural crafts – the lower secondary painting Chinese masks and the upper secondary doing fan painting.
