Teachers’ Day Celebration 2014

Teachers’ Day is the day we thank all teachers who have selflessly guided us through our journey here in Fairfield. In line with this year’s theme ‘Superheroes’, the Student Council put together a concert filled with superb games and colourful decorations for the teachers on 4 September 2014.

Clean Sweep of All Available Awards by FMS(S) Students in Safety Starts With Me Writing Competition 

The Safety Starts With Me Writing Competition, which is organised annually by the Workplace Safety and Health Council, aims to help everyone showcase their creative talents while paying attention to common everyday risks at work. Creative entries focused on the prevention of work accidents or injuries, or creating safety awareness, in alignment with the theme ‘A healthier workplace is a safer workplace’.

Fairfield’s 126th Founder’s Day Commendation Service 2014

Fairfield celebrated her Founder’s Day on 4 August 2014 in the Chen Su Lan Hall to commemorate the founding of our beloved school by Miss Sophia Blackmore in 1888. An upper secondary service was held first before the lower secondary students celebrated this special occasion.

National Day 2014

Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) celebrated Singapore’s 49th birthday on 8 August 2014. Students and teachers were decked in red and white, wearing their patriotism on their sleeves to celebrate the nation’s birthday. Excitement was in the air as Fairsians gathered along the corridors of the school building, awaiting the parade held at the half netball court. The outstanding parade segment featured the different uniformed groups in the school, consisting of the Boys’ Brigade, Girls’ Brigade, National Cadet Corps (Land), National Cadet Corps (Sea)... 



Fairfield Symphonic Band Clinches the Gold Award in National Band Competition

On 3 August 2014, the Fairfield Symphonic Band competed in the 5th National Band Competition (Division 2 category) at the Singapore Conference Hall, and clinched the most coveted Gold Award as well as achieved an overall second placing. These unprecedented sterling results were a culmination of the sheer hard work and sacrifice of the band members, band conductors and band teachers throughout the year. Even in the midst of Common Test preparation, the band members demonstrated much tenacity and resilience during their intensive trainings and rehearsals to conscientiously hone their skills.


126th Founder’s Day Graduation and Thanksgiving Service

On 1 August 2014, the 126th Founder’s Day Graduation and Thanksgiving Service was held in the Chen Su Lan Hall. The Fairfield Choir kicked off this service with a brilliant rendition of a medley of songs, including ‘Wade in the Water’ and ‘The Prayer’, which was led by Student Conductor Steven Koe. Mr. Varian Cheong, a member of Fairfield’s Christian Ministry Staff, then led the Call to Worship, before Reverend Barnabas Chong gave the Opening Prayer.




Fairfield Basketball’s ‘C’ Division Boys Finished Second in South Zone Basketball Championships 2014

In the recent Inter-School South Zone Basketball Championships 2014, Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary)’s ‘C’ Division Basketball team emerged as First Runner-Up. Fairfield Volleyball’s Achievements 2014

Fairfield Volleyball is a long-standing Co-Curricular Activity comprising 80 members who show true dedication and passion for the sport. This year, with grit and resilience, all our four teams performed outstandingly at the National Inter-School Volleyball Championships. Over the years, Fairfield English Drama has put up many successful performances such as ‘The Dancers’, ‘Radio Silence’, ‘Revolution’ and ‘How the First Letter was Written’.

Secondary 1 WHEEL Week

Fairfield is passionate about developing every student into an active lifelong learner and influential leader through the provision of a holistic, enriching, experiential and student-centred education, thus a plethora of exciting arts, aesthetics and cultural appreciation activities was specially planned to help the secondary one students to achieve personal mastery during this year’s Secondary One WHEEL Week, which was held between 19 and 23 May 2014.

Chapelthon 2014

Chapelthon 2014 was truly a great experience, as God’s love reached out to so many people in the hall. The theme for this year was ‘Extravagant Grace’, which emphasised God’s saving and unending grace.


The evening started with a bang from the Alumni band led by Joy Sim! It was wonderful as everyone worshipped fervently and sensed God’s presence fill the hall, as hands and voices were lifted in awe of Him. Sec 2 Dover Block Party 2014

Fairfield Methodist School (Secondary) organised an annual block party held at Dover on 16 May 2014, which helped to foster closer bonds amongst residents in the Dover community and inculcate a heart of service amongst the secondary 2 students.

Secondary 2 WHEEL Week 2014

The annual Secondary two camp that took place from 19 May to 22 May 2014 consisted of a plethora of diverse fun-filled activities meant to broaden the students’ horizons and to give them the unique experience of an outdoor adventure education.


After the boys pitched their tents and the girls cleaned their dormitories, the students gathered to officially begin the camp. On the first day, team building games and a poster making activity helped all groups to develop closer ties. First Aid talks were also conducted... 



Fairfield Clinches the ‘B’ Division Squash Championships

On 24 April 2014, the Fairfield Squash Boys’ team did the school proud by winning and retaining the ‘B’ Division squash championships with the support of fellow teachers and schoolmates.


With a determined mindset, Ryan Liang won the first match against ACS (I) with a score of 3-1. Jerald Tan then dominated and clinched the second match, giving Fairfield a 2-0 lead. FMS(S) English Language Week 2014

This year’s English Language (EL) Week, which was held from 7 to 11 April 2014, was aimed at developing Fairsians’ interest in English Language through a plethora of engaging and intriguing activities.


One of the most interesting activities, the Spelling Bee, thoroughly excited Fairsians who displayed their competitive spirit in the classroom. The contestants eagerly brooded over the positions of the various letters in the given words as they tried spelling a myriad of challenging words.



Cross Country 2014

On 28 March 2014, the Fairfield family flocked to West Coast Park for our annual Cross Country. In line with the FIFA World Cup which is taking place in June this year, Fairfield invited Tanjong Pagar United’s marquee signing Monsef Zerka as our Guest-Of-Honour, who was very happy to answer questions posed by our emcees Ms Brenda Nio and Mr Teo Kian Wee, so as to provide an insight into his healthy lifestyle and to encourage us to stay fit and healthy. Alvina is a humble and optimistic student who displays good leadership and organisational skills. Genevieve Chew - An overachiever when it comes to perseverance and determination 

Genevieve is a far-sighted individual who sets high goals for herself and shows determination and perseverance in achieving them. An active member of the Girls' Brigade (G.B.), she was part of the team that did the school proud by attaining the Gold Award from 2011 to 2013 at the annual Uniformed Group Competition organised by G.B. Headquarters. In addition, Genevieve was involved in the G.B. National Drill Competition in 2011 where they also attained the Gold Award. Due to her significant contributions, Genevieve was promoted to become the Chairman of Girls' Brigade, where she was given the opportunity to hone her leadership skills...


Brendan Loon – Excellent in Music and Studies 

Brendan is a highly motivated individual who is very focused on working towards his goals. Appointed as the Head of the Connect Department in the Student Council in 2012, Brendan was able to hone his leadership skills as he led his team in spearheading the Students’ Suggestion Scheme programme in school. Having a passion for music and as an active member of the Fairfield Symphonic Band, Brendan took part in various events and competitions. He was part of the team which helped the Band clinch the Silver Award at the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Central Judging for Concert Bands in 2011.


Chien Chuen Wee - A Disciplined Student 

Chuen Wee is an optimistic and creative student who strives to do his best in all tasks. As an active member of the school's Badminton Team, he represented FMS(S) in various inter-school competitions and came in second at the Singapore Badminton Association Singles Invitational (Under 17) in 2013. Owing to his valuable contributions and active participation, he was appointed the Vice-Captain of the team. He also served the school as a Health Ambassador in 2012 and 2013, where he assisted the teachers in disseminating health tips to the school population and also helped in organising several events which promoted healthy living... 



Fairfield Achieves Excellent 2013 GCE O- and N- Level Results

On 13 January 2014, our Sec 4 Express and 5 Normal (Academic) students returned to FMS(S) to collect their GCE O- Level results. The day had finally arrived for them to receive their results; the Chen Su Lan Hall was filled with chatter and murmur as everyone was anxiously anticipating the release of his or her examination results.

Multi Ethnic Celebrations 2014

This year’s Multi Ethnic Celebrations on 30 January 2014 was a feast for the senses, as students, teachers and staff alike dressed in colourful ethnic costumes and engaged in exciting performances that involved dance, music and song.

Joshua Jesudason – An Ex-Fairsian who Received the President’s Scholarship 2013 

Joshua Ebenezer Jesudason was one of only five people to receive the prestigious President’s Scholarship at the Istana, which recognises his outstanding academic and co-curricular records, character, and leadership potential. A Refreshingly Revamped T- Zone for All

Our beloved T- Zone is open once again! After a year-long hiatus, the T- Zone will provide students with an even more comfortable and conducive place to hang out after school.


The teachers, students and parents got together on 5 September 2013 to participate in the T- Zone Re-opening Ceremony. Peter Chong – An Ex-Fairsian who Won the Boys’ Brigade President’s Award

Peter Chong Ken Yang was presented the Boys’ Brigade President’s Award by President Tony Tan Keng Yam in 2013 for fulfilling the requisite proficiency tests and for meeting the rigorous requirements in leadership and community service for the past six years. In the Boys’ Brigade in FMS(S), Peter attained the rank of Warrant Officer, the highest rank a Boy can attain. Claire Carter – An Ex-Fairsian who Became the President of the ACJC Student Council

Carnival@Fairfield 2013

6 April 2013 marked the start of the most anticipated day of all Fairsians – the Fairfield Carnival, which takes place only once every 5 years!


From early in the morning, many students started setting up their stalls with their classmates and teachers, preparing a wide variety of games and mouth-watering delights before the crowd arrived.
